Major Broadcasting Shift for Music’s Biggest Night

ABC will become the new television home for the Grammy Awards beginning in 2027, marking the first time in over five decades that the prestigious music awards ceremony won’t air on CBS. The network confirmed the multi-year partnership that will bring the event to ABC’s platforms along with Hulu and Disney+ streaming services.

Morning Show Hosts Celebrate Acquisition

Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming change during a recent broadcast. “We can’t wait to welcome the Grammys to our network family next year,” Roberts stated alongside co-anchors following the announcement. The deal concludes CBS’s 54-year continuous run as Grammy broadcaster since 1973.

ABC’s Growing Awards Show Portfolio

The acquisition positions ABC as a powerhouse for major live events in 2027, with the Grammys joining their existing lineup that includes the Super Bowl, Oscars, CMA Awards, and Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest. Industry reports suggest CBS and The Recording Academy failed to reach terms during exclusive negotiations, despite CBS’s continued interest amid corporate restructuring.

Recording Academy Leadership Looks Ahead

Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of The Recording Academy, appeared on Good Morning America to discuss the transition. “Viewers can expect more of what makes the Grammys special – celebrating incredible talent across all genres,” Mason told Roberts and fellow anchors. “We’re seeing unprecedented global musical diversity, from established icons to groundbreaking new artists.”

Evolution of Music’s Biggest Night

When asked about keeping the awards show fresh, Mason explained: “Music naturally evolves each year with new talent and innovative sounds. The Grammys reflect that creative energy by blending genres and showcasing unexpected collaborations.” The executive, who assumed leadership in 2021, emphasized his excitement about the ABC partnership: “We’re ready to uplift the show in new ways while maintaining what audiences love.”

This strategic move comes as ABC parent company Disney continues to expand its live event programming across broadcast and streaming platforms. The 2027 Grammy Awards will mark the first production under the new broadcasting agreement when music’s biggest names gather to celebrate industry achievements.
