Annabel Schofield, the iconic 80s supermodel and actress, has passed away at age 62 following a battle with cancer. She died on February 28 in Los Angeles, California.
Early Life and Fashion Breakthrough
Born on September 4, 1963, in Llanelli, Wales, Schofield grew up around film sets thanks to her father, British movie production executive John D. Schofield. She quickly became a staple in London’s vibrant 1980s fashion scene, represented by the Take Two Agency. As a cover girl sensation, she graced hundreds of magazines and starred in major campaigns for brands like Yves Saint Laurent, Rimmel, Revlon, and Boots No.7.
Schofield gained widespread recognition from her memorable Bugle Boy Jeans TV commercial, where she delivered the line, “Excuse me, are those Bugle Boy jeans you’re wearing?” while driving a black Ferrari through the desert.
Acting and Television Success
Transitioning to acting, Schofield appeared opposite Larry Hagman in the hit soap Dallas. Her film credits include Solar Crisis, Eye of the Widow, Blood Tide, and Dragonard.
Behind-the-Camera Achievements
Later, Schofield moved into production, contributing to projects like The Brothers Grimm, Doom, and City of Ember. In 2010, she launched Bella Bene Productions in Burbank, focusing on fashion projects, commercials, and music ventures.
She partnered closely with director Nick Egan, known for music videos with The Ramones, The Clash, Duran Duran, and Oasis. Schofield also collaborated on a 3D Guerlain campaign featuring Angelina Jolie and penned a semi-autobiographical novel, The Cherry Alignment, dedicated to her late friend, actor Heath Ledger.
Tributes from Industry Peers
Melissa Richardson, former owner of London’s Take Two Agency, shared a heartfelt tribute: “She was one of David Bailey’s favorites and appeared in countless shoots for Italian Vogue. She was the forerunner of Take Two—without her, we could never have made it as we did. We loved her because she was funny and real and beautiful and down to earth. She never changed from the sweet little 17-year-old Welsh girl I first met. She was directly loyal, caring, and above all, a raging beauty. She knew her craft. She was the best.”
