Brown entered the barn to jump-start a vehicle when the fire erupted. He promptly urged a family member to fetch a fire extinguisher. By the time family members reached the structure, flames had fully engulfed it.
His daughter confirmed the news of his passing. Authorities ruled the cause of death as diffuse thermal injury and smoke inhalation, classifying the manner of death as accidental.
