Residents in Brighouse, West Yorkshire, experienced widespread power outages after a man climbed a high-voltage electricity pylon on Sunday morning. Witnesses described the shocking scene near Sainsbury’s in the town center, where the individual, believed to be upset over relationship issues, scaled the structure almost to the top.
Power Disruptions Spread Across Areas
Blackouts struck Brighouse, Lightcliffe, Hove Edge, and nearby neighborhoods, leaving thousands of households without electricity. Emergency crews, including paramedics, West Yorkshire Police, and firefighters, rushed to the site near Brighouse Marina.
Swift Response from Authorities
A Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed the team received a call from West Yorkshire Police at 9:23 a.m., dispatching three Hazard Area Response Teams and two area commanders.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson stated: “Emergency services were called to the site of an electricity pylon close to Brighouse Marina at 9:15 a.m. today following reports of concern for the safety of a man who had reportedly climbed up the structure.”
“The man climbed down the pylon shortly after 11:30 a.m. and was arrested. He is not thought to have suffered any injuries during the incident.”
