Canada’s new vehicle sales fell in January 2026 compared to January 2025, with zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) registering the steepest decline, Statistics Canada data reveals.
Nationwide, sales of 8,826 new ZEVs—which encompass battery electric and plug-in hybrid models—dropped 39.3 percent from the prior year.
ZEVs made up 8.7 percent of total new vehicle sales across Canada in 2025.
