Edmonton officials activated the city’s extreme weather response at 9 a.m. on Thursday. The measure remains in effect until 9 a.m. on March 4, or until weather conditions improve sufficiently to lift it earlier.
Upcoming Stormy Conditions
Weather forecasts indicate a sharp shift to stormy conditions starting Thursday afternoon. Expect precipitation, wind gusts ranging from 30 km/h to 50 km/h, and temperatures plunging to -20°C by Saturday morning.
Support Services for Residents
During the extreme weather response, residents seeking warmth can access designated public facilities such as recreation centers and libraries during their standard operating hours.
Transportation support expands with an additional third overnight shuttle service added to the north route, connecting to homeless shelters.
Note that the Al Rashid Mosque, which often opens extra shelter spaces during severe winter weather, cannot provide them this time due to ongoing Ramadan observances.
Residents can find further details on the extreme weather response and available resources through the city’s official website.
