Elijah Blue Allman, the 49-year-old son of music icon Cher and the late Gregg Allman, faces assault charges following an incident at St. Paul’s School, an elite preparatory academy in Concord, New Hampshire.
Details of the Arrest
Officers from the Concord Police Department responded to the campus just before 7 p.m. on Friday after reports of an unauthorized person causing a disturbance in the school’s dining hall. Witnesses described Allman acting aggressively and belligerently, leading to his detention.
Authorities processed Allman at the station and released him on his own recognizance without bail. He is set to appear in court for arraignment on the assault charge. Officials confirm Allman has no connection to the school, and his reason for being on campus remains unclear.
Prior Health Emergency
The arrest comes after a serious incident in June 2025, when Allman was hospitalized following a drug overdose in Landers, California. A San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department spokesman detailed the event: “On Saturday, June 14, 2025, at about 1:25 p.m., deputies from our Morongo Basin Station responded to a residence in the 2300 block of Cambria Avenue for a male subject acting erratically.”
“When deputies arrived, Elijah Allman, 48, was being evaluated by emergency medical personnel. Deputies located drugs inside the home and Allman was transported to the hospital,” the spokesman added.
Admission of Early Drug Use
In a 2014 interview, Allman opened up about his struggles with addiction, revealing he started using substances like marijuana and ecstasy at age 11. “I was just looking to escape all the things in my past, and that’s when you turn to those kind of drugs, you know, heroin and opiates,” he explained.
He described heroin as a temporary lifeline during dark times: “[Heroin] kind of saved me … If I didn’t have that at that point, I don’t know what I would have done … You may jump off a bridge. If you can only just go through that time period and live through it and then get help.”
Allman also reflected on near-death experiences: “I always kind of kept it a little bit safe but you never can do that … The wrong combination of things can happen and you can just slip into the abyss. I knew it was wrong and I knew that I was very unsatisfied with life at that point.”
Family Background and Conservatorship Battle
Cher, 79, shares Elijah with Gregg Allman, who passed away in 2017. She is also mother to 56-year-old Chaz Bono from her relationship with the late Sonny Bono.
In early 2024, a judge denied Cher’s petition to become temporary conservator for Elijah in Los Angeles Superior Court. Cher argued his drug addiction and health issues left him unable to manage a $120,000 annual trust fund from his father’s estate, fearing he would misuse the $10,000 monthly payouts.
Judge Jessica Uzcategui rejected the request, citing insufficient notice to Allman and withheld confidential case details. Cher’s attorney, Gabrielle Vidal, had urged waiving the standard five-day notice, warning that fund distributions without oversight could place him “in a life or death position.”
After the ruling, Allman smiled and shook his head when asked about the decision.
