Floyd Mayweather Faces New Private Jet Lawsuit
Floyd Mayweather Jr., the undefeated boxing legend, faces a fresh lawsuit alleging he failed to pay a $105,690 bill for a private jet charter to Turks and Caicos in September. The complaint, filed in Los Angeles County, names Mayweather, his jewelry consultant Jona Rechnitz, and others as defendants in a case brought by Jet Set Aircraft.
The suit claims the group used the flight services but refused payment. It further alleges Rechnitz knew Mayweather had a pattern of accepting goods and services from third parties without compensating them. Jet Set Aircraft seeks the full amount owed plus punitive damages to be determined at trial.
Background on Co-Defendant Jona Rechnitz
Rechnitz, known for serving high-profile clients including Mayweather, pleaded guilty to honest services fraud in 2016 after bribing public and union officials. He testified against co-conspirators and earned praise from a U.S. attorney as an important cooperating witness in white-collar crime cases.
Pattern of Recent Legal Challenges
This marks the latest in a string of lawsuits against the 49-year-old Mayweather, who reportedly earned $1 billion during his career. In February, three separate suits accused him of unpaid rent and jewelry bills totaling millions. One case, also involving Rechnitz, claimed they ignored a $4 million settlement with a Florida jeweler.
Additionally, the owner of Mayweather’s luxury New York City condo sued for $330,000 in back rent. Mayweather signed the lease in December 2024 but stopped payments in July 2025. During that period, he shared social media photos of himself on a private jet amid stacks of cash, captioned: “I just be minding my business!”
Ongoing Financial Pressures
Mayweather contends with a $7.3 million IRS lien for unpaid taxes. In December, he sold his Gulfstream jet, Air Mayweather, along with mansions in Beverly Hills and Miami. Earlier this year, he filed a lawsuit against Showtime, demanding at least $340 million over alleged fraud. Showtime’s parent company, Paramount, dismissed the claim as baseless.
Eyes Return to the Ring
Amid these issues, Mayweather plans an exhibition bout against 59-year-old Mike Tyson, followed by an official fight with 47-year-old rival Manny Pacquiao. Their 2015 encounter ended in a unanimous decision victory for Mayweather, though Pacquiao dealt with a torn rotator cuff requiring surgery afterward. That fight generated approximately $600 million despite fan criticism.
