Hassan Azim steps back into the boxing ring tonight in London, eager to overcome a challenging period marked by persistent health issues. The fighter has only competed once in the past three years, sidelined by medical setbacks that forced multiple cancellations of his bouts.
Recovering from a Difficult Period
Azim faces Sean Murray in his ninth professional fight, confident that the troubles that derailed his career are now resolved. He opens up about the struggles that weighed him down, both physically and mentally.
“I had a lot of problems with my health and needed time off,” Azim stated. “I kept trying to return but injuries sent me to the hospital repeatedly. There was a dark phase when I weighed 80-90kg and questioned if I’d ever regain my form.”
Now, Azim reports feeling revitalized at 69-70kg, sharper than before. His recent training camp has been productive, boosting his readiness. He views the enforced break as purposeful, attributing it to a higher plan after years of non-stop training since age 12.
“Everything happens for a reason,” he added. “I’ve entered camp three or four times, but fights fell through due to various issues and contract complications. This year, I’m fully committed, starting with this matchup and aiming for at least five or six bouts.”
Supporting His Brother Amid Setbacks
During his absence, Azim shifted focus to supporting his younger brother Adam, who has been capturing attention in the ring. Adam was slated to headline tonight’s card against Gustavo Lemos but withdrew due to injury, allowing Hassan to take the spotlight.
The time away highlighted Azim’s passion for the sport. “Watching Adam’s fight weeks reminded me how much I miss the training, diet, and atmosphere,” he shared. “As the eldest, I prioritize looking after my siblings. It was a silver lining—full focus on Adam without dividing my attention.”
Azim emphasizes their strong bond, always available to assist with preparations and logistics. “We support each other constantly, and I’m there for him around the clock,” he said. “I care deeply for Adam and take pride in helping him succeed.”
