Jamie Laing issued an on-air apology during coverage of the Boat Race after the Oxford women’s cox used profanity in a live interview. The Made in Chelsea star served as a reporter at the historic event, broadcast live for the first time by Channel 4.
Oxford Women Secure First Win Since 2016
Oxford’s women’s team claimed victory, marking their first triumph since 2016. Following the race, Laing spoke with cox Louis Corrigan about tactics. Corrigan explained: “Just holding them where they needed to be, just managing how much stream we can get, how much rough water we can cope with and narrowing that down just right. I think we did that really well and we held them at bay. What a f***ing awesome day.”
Laing immediately responded: “Excuse the language, we are celebrating, it’s okay.”
Cambridge Dominates Men’s Race Amid Further Profanity
Cambridge won the men’s race, finishing the four-mile, 374-yard course in 17:56.84, 11.02 seconds ahead of Oxford. Heavily favored, Cambridge maintained control after an early challenge from Oxford. Both crews received multiple umpire warnings for drifting amid strong southwesterly winds.
Presenter Clare Balding later apologized when a Cambridge team member shouted “Let’s f***ing go” during their post-race interview.
Cambridge rower Noam Mouelle, securing his fourth Boat Race win, shared: “Feeling amazing. It was a super hard race. Everyone was blowing halfway through the race but everyone had done the job early so no problem. We just had to make no mistakes. Great race. It’ll take a bit of time to realize it. The goal was to get the job done.”
Men’s cox Houdaigui added: “That was a fantastic race. All credit to Oxford and their eight rowers. We knew we had the right athletes in the boat. I love these guys. Hats off to Oxford.”
Cambridge continues their men’s dominance with seven victories in the last eight years, leading the overall series 90-81 before thousands of spectators along the river.
