Author Jane Fallon, 65, has strongly condemned a fabricated obituary that spread online shortly after she disclosed her breast cancer diagnosis.

Fake Obituary Sparks Outrage

Fallon shared details of the hoax on her X account before removing the post. She expressed frustration but emphasized she was not upset. “I’ve taken the post about the obituary down, because I don’t want people to think I’m upset by it. I’m not. P***ed off yes,” she wrote. Fallon warned followers about deceptive images, stating, “But more, I just want people to know that any photos you see of me in hospital, looking sad or with tubes sticking out of me are 100% fake – AI generated.”

Diagnosis and Surgery Update

Last month, Fallon revealed her early-stage breast cancer diagnosis following a routine mammogram. Despite no prior symptoms, a radiographer identified an irregularity, leading to further tests including biopsies and an MRI. She underwent surgery late last month and reported feeling “remarkably fine” afterward, assuring fans of her good spirits.

Currently resting at home with her cat Pickles, Fallon awaits confirmation in 8-10 days that surgeons removed all cancer with clear margins. She noted a small chance of additional surgery if needed. Upon announcing her diagnosis, she urged fans not to panic, highlighting her “excellent” prognosis.

“About a month ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer – very early stage thankfully & the prognosis is excellent.”

“I had a routine mammogram a week before Christmas. I had no symptoms but the brilliant radiographer spotted something iffy & sent me for further tests & eventually a biopsy. Since then I’ve had more mammograms, more biopsies and an MRI so they can pinpoint the problem area precisely. It’s been a lot, I’m not going to lie.”

Fallon, partner of comedian Ricky Gervais for over 40 years since meeting in 1982, has authored 14 bestselling novels including Getting Rid of Matthew, Got You Back, Queen Bee, Worst Idea Ever, and Faking Friends.
