The 45-year-old mayor was in search of reelection for the right-wing opposition Nationwide Celebration in November 30 presidential, legislative and native elections.

Martinez was arrested in 2015 for allegedly attempting to kill a daughter’s boyfriend with a machete, police stated.

Native media reported that he was acquitted in 2016.
