King Charles has arrived at his Sandringham estate but maintains no intention of visiting his brother, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, despite their close proximity. The monarch retreated to Norfolk following a demanding schedule amid the ongoing family crisis triggered by Andrew’s recent arrest.
Arrival at Sandringham
The King pulled up to Sandringham in a black Range Rover shortly before 3 p.m. on Saturday, personally at the wheel. He traveled to the estate by helicopter the previous afternoon.
Busy Schedule Amid Family Issues
Charles balanced family matters with official duties last week. On Thursday, he visited West Sussex to meet military families and inspect an air defense missile launcher. The following day, he made an unannounced trip to Northwood military headquarters, recognized as the nerve center of UK defense operations.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s Arrest
Authorities arrested the King’s younger brother on February 19—his 66th birthday—on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The former Duke of York spent 11 hours in custody before release, though the investigation continues.
A statement from officials following the arrest noted: “Following a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office. It is important that we protect the integrity and objectivity of our investigation as we work with our partners to investigate this alleged offence. We understand the significant public interest in this case, and we will provide updates at the appropriate time.”
The arrest occurred shortly after Andrew relocated to Wood Farm following his eviction from Royal Lodge, his home since 2004. He plans to move to Marsh Farm in the coming weeks, where renovations are underway.
King Charles’ Response
In response to the arrest, King Charles issued a statement emphasizing legal processes: “I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office. What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities. In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation. Let me state clearly: the law must take its course. As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter. Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all.”
