Manchester United prepares to solidify its Champions League standing with a key match against Bournemouth on Friday evening. Interim manager Michael Carrick’s side seeks to widen the gap over challengers following a strong victory over Aston Villa. Goals from Casemiro, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko secured the win, placing United three points clear in third position and boosting team morale under Carrick’s leadership.
Carrick Takes Cautious Approach with Mason Mount
The United manager indicates no rush to reinstate Mason Mount in the starting lineup. The 27-year-old recently returned to the matchday squad against Villa but has not played since Carrick’s debut two months ago.
“Starting would be too much, I think, at this point, [for Mason],” Carrick explained. “Just for the training time and the exposure he’s had, really. But it’s brilliant to have him back. He’s a fantastic player, Mason, and great to have around the group again. So [I’m] delighted to have him back and, obviously, the break coming up now gives him a chance to get even more up to speed. So, in some ways, that’s come at a good time for him.”
Jadon Sancho Attracts Interest from Borussia Dortmund
Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho has impressed his former club, Borussia Dortmund. The 25-year-old winger struggles at Aston Villa, managing just one goal in 29 appearances across all competitions.
Sources indicate Dortmund hopes to secure Sancho for a third spell once his United contract expires this summer. Previously, manager Niko Kovac avoided signing wingers due to tactical preferences, but he now supports pursuing a deal.
Acquired from Dortmund for £73 million in 2021, Sancho faced challenges at United before a brief return to Germany in 2024. He then joined Chelsea last season and moved to Villa late, featuring in 18 league games this campaign.
