Margot Robbie channels Y2K-era Kylie Minogue in a captivating new Chanel handbag advertisement launched on Monday. The 35-year-old Australian actress recreates the pop star’s legendary 2002 ‘Come Into My World’ music video, originally directed by Michel Gondry.

Visual Homage to the Original Clip

Gondry returns for the Chanel spot, featuring multiple versions of Robbie navigating a soundstage designed as a Parisian street. Post-production effects create the illusion of several Margots appearing simultaneously, each carrying a distinct color and size of the Chanel 25 handbag. The laundromat from the original transforms into a bookshop, or ‘librairie.’

Kylie Minogue, 57, makes a special cameo, standing in a window dressed in pink—mirroring her look from the music video—as Robbie waves to her.

Margot’s Admiration for the Classic

‘I remember watching it as a kid and thinking it was so cool and clever—the in-camera trickery he’s so famous for,’ Robbie shared in a Vogue interview about the original video. She joked that the ad serves as her way of portraying Minogue on screen without singing and disappointing fans.

Addressing Biopic Rumors

The advertisement nods to earlier speculation about Robbie portraying Minogue in a biopic. In September 2025, during a BBC Radio 2 interview, Robbie dismissed the idea despite Minogue’s public endorsement.

‘She did not?! Why has nobody ever told me this before?! That is wild information,’ Robbie exclaimed upon learning of the endorsement. Flattered yet firm, she stated, ‘I am beyond honoured. Of course, I could not. I can’t sing like Kylie.’ She expressed discomfort with actors tackling musical roles without strong vocals.

An Aussie Bonding Moment

Robbie revealed their first encounter unfolded casually at Los Angeles’ Chateau Marmont. Minogue’s team arranged the meeting, but it turned into a relaxed hangout. ‘I thought it was going to be about work or a charity thing,’ Robbie recalled. ‘But she just said, “You’re an Aussie, I’m an Aussie, we should hang out.” And then we just got drunk together.’
