Michael Barrymore, the 73-year-old former TV star, recently underwent hernia surgery and is sharing updates on his recovery from his new £385,000 bungalow in Devon.
Resting and Taking It Easy
Barrymore posted on Instagram about resting up after a short outing with his whippet, Lara, at nearby Blackpool Sands. He explained that he cannot walk far due to his condition, so they returned home quickly, hung new photos, and took a nap in the sunlight.
“I can’t do a lot until I recover so we just slept all day in the sunlight and chilled out,” he shared. “I have loads of painkillers the hospital gave me that I don’t like to take because they make me really drowsy.”
He captioned the post: “Recovering from surgery.” Fans responded with messages like “Get well soon,” “Wishing you a speedy recovery,” and “Take it easy.”
New Life in Devon
Barrymore recently purchased the modest two-bedroom, one-bath bungalow in a market town near some of Britain’s best beaches. The timber-clad beach house-style property features exposed wooden beams above a white kitchen worktop and a small decking area off the master bedroom and living room, ideal for relaxing.
He has documented his new south-west England life on TikTok, including selfies with locals and home tours. Previously based in west London, he moved at the start of this month.
Shift from Spain Plans
Barrymore abandoned plans to relocate near Barcelona after facing homesickness and anti-tourism protests. In a selfie video from his car during the drive back to the UK, he said: “I’m a f***ing mess, so homesick, I’ve never experienced it before. I feel insecure… I felt so down about giving up on moving to Barcelona, I felt like I let so many people down.”
