Thousands of customers across Newfoundland woke up without power on Friday morning after a trip on the Labrador-Island Link transmission line.

Widespread Impact
Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro confirmed the outage affects numerous regions on the island. Officials expect the disruptions to resolve quickly, with restoration efforts already in progress for many areas.
“These outages should be brief and restoration is underway for many customers,” the utility stated in an update.
Areas Affected
Outages span from the Avalon Peninsula and Burin Peninsula to the north coast, central Newfoundland, and as far west as Channel-Port aux Basques. By noon, power losses continued from the Avalon Peninsula to the west coast.
