Residents in central and eastern Prince Edward Island may encounter challenging weather from Sunday evening through Monday afternoon, featuring substantial snowfall and gusty winds.
Weather Statement Issued
Environment Canada has released a special weather statement for Queens and Kings counties, alerting to heavy snow and intense winds. The eastern parts of Kings County could see 10 to 20 centimetres of snow accompanied by northeasterly gusts reaching 60 to 80 kilometres per hour.
The statement indicates that travel will worsen Sunday evening as snow builds up, winds intensify, and blowing snow reduces visibility. Officials warn of potential power disruptions in affected regions.
Expected Impacts Across the Province
Communities in the impacted zones should prepare for 10 to 20 centimetres of accumulation. Meteorologist Jay Scotland noted that the storm’s projected track directs the heaviest effects to the south and east of the island.
If this trajectory persists, western areas might escape major snowfall, though northeasterly to northerly winds will likely generate blowing and drifting snow there. Scotland advised residents to gear up for hazardous road conditions and limited visibility from Sunday night until Monday afternoon.
Blizzard-like conditions are possible during this period, with wind gusts varying from 50 to over 80 km/h.
