Music legend Phil Collins received heartfelt public tributes from his children during recent birthday celebrations, marking his 75th year while managing ongoing health concerns. The rare family acknowledgments came from both his daughters and sons, who typically maintain private lives away from the spotlight.
Sons Share Emotional Tribute
Nicholas Collins, 24, posted a previously unseen family photograph featuring himself, his father, and younger brother Matthew, 21, captioned: “Happy 75th birthday Dad! I’m so proud of you. Thank you for always inspiring me and for being the best dad I could ask for.” Matthew responded with celebratory emojis in the comments section of the social media post.
The image showed the Genesis frontman seated between his sons – both children from his third marriage – sharing a lighthearted moment. Sisters Joely, 53, and Lily also joined the online celebration, with Joely writing “What great photos!! Happy birthday Dad!” and Lily declaring her father “The absolute greatest” with multiple heart symbols.
Musical Legacy Continues
Nicholas has notably followed his father’s musical path, developing drumming skills that earned him performances alongside the Grammy winner. At just 15, he joined his father’s 2017 comeback tour as percussionist, later filling in for Phil during Genesis’ 2021 performances.
“I’ve been immersed in my father’s music my entire life, but performing it brings a completely different perspective,” Nicholas explained in a past interview. The musician also tours with rock group Mike + The Mechanics and fronts his own band Better Strangers.
Daughter’s Personal Celebration
Lily Collins, the Emily in Paris star and Phil’s daughter from his second marriage, shared intimate snapshots from their birthday celebration. “I feel so grateful to have celebrated together,” she wrote. “For all you’ve accomplished and the joy you’ve brought worldwide… proud is an understatement.”
The emotional tributes come as reports indicate Collins manages multiple health challenges, having undergone five knee operations and requiring continuous medical support. Despite these difficulties, family photos showed the musician smiling warmly surrounded by loved ones during the milestone celebration.
