Former Sky Sports presenter Richard Keys addresses ongoing rumors about his marriage to Lucie, whom he wed in 2023 following his divorce from Julia after 34 years together.

Career Highlights and Controversies

Keys gained fame among football fans as a Sky Sports anchor, particularly for launching the network’s Premier League coverage in 1992 alongside Andy Gray. Their strong on-air partnership ended abruptly after off-air sexist comments surfaced, leading to Keys’ departure. The duo later reunited at BeIN Sports, where they have worked for the past 13 years.

Addressing Personal Life Speculation

Online chatter has long targeted Keys’ private life, including claims of infidelity during his marriage to Julia, who filed for divorce in 2016. Julia’s past battle with thyroid cancer drew sharp criticism toward Keys on social media. Further rumors suggested Lucie, 31 years his junior, was his daughter Jemma’s best friend.

Keys refutes these narratives. While he confirms Lucie and Jemma socialized in Qatar, he denies any predatory story. “What’s damaging is that people presume I ran away with my daughter’s best mate, locked her in a room, and gave her no choice about whether she wanted to be with me or not,” Keys stated. “All of which is nonsense.”

He describes Lucie, a solicitor formerly with the Qatar Investment Authority, as “one of the most powerful, strong-minded individuals you’ll come across,” deeply committed to women’s rights. “People see me as an easy target, but the narrative is not fair on her. It’s totally wrong,” he added.

Keys met Lucie at a golf event in Qatar. “I never expected my marriage would end after 34 years, but Lucie bowled into my life and, wow, what a force of nature. And the rest is history,” he explained.

Ex-Wife’s Health and Support

Julia stood by Keys during his 2011 Sky Sports exit. He clarifies she was not battling cancer when they separated. “I’ve never sat with anybody and talked about this, but I didn’t leave Julia dying of cancer, or suffering with cancer. Sadly, she had cancer in 2008 and ’09, and we ran into a genius surgeon who removed it,” Keys noted, respecting her privacy.

Future Moves

Keys and Gray plan to leave BeIN Sports at the end of the current season. Keys recently returned to England from Qatar amid Iranian drone strikes.
