Liverpool prepares to face West Ham in the Premier League this weekend, but manager Arne Slot confirmed that midfielder Florian Wirtz will miss the clash due to a back injury sustained last weekend.
Injury Timeline and Availability
Wirtz, the Germany international, withdrew from the squad during warm-ups before Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest. Slot revealed in his pre-match press conference that Wirtz remains sidelined and unavailable for the Saturday encounter at Anfield.
“Jeremie Frimpong trained with us a few times this week, so he’s available,” Slot stated. “But I don’t expect Florian Wirtz to be available.”
No Clear Return Date
Slot expressed uncertainty about Wirtz’s recovery timeline, emphasizing the unexpected nature of the setback. “At this moment, I don’t know,” he admitted. “Usually when I say that, I do know and don’t want to share it, but this time, I honestly don’t know.”
The manager highlighted Wirtz’s impressive fitness record since joining from Bayer Leverkusen. “It’s a big accomplishment for Wirtz to stay fit for such a long time, making the step up to the Premier League and Liverpool,” Slot noted. “It shows his mentality and work rate. He has played really well lately, so this is a disappointment for him and for us.”
