True crime streamers face backlash for turning Nancy Guthrie’s home into a spectacle, with heated online disputes over provocative attire and filming spots.
Outrage Over Streamers’ Appearance
Content creators have descended on the Tucson residence of missing woman Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie. One streamer, known as Kiki, arrived wearing leather micro-shorts, a crop top, and motorcycle boots, sparking widespread condemnation for what many call a disrespectful display at a serious crime scene.
Investigative journalist Jonathon Lee Riches shared a photo on X of Kiki and her cameraman at the property, captioning it: ‘A woman and her cameraman just arrived to Nancy Guthrie’s home.’ Online reactions poured in, with users expressing disgust. ‘Um, they do not appear to be serious news people,’ one commented. Others noted, ‘Seems like odd outfits to be wearing,’ and ‘Her boots cover more than her shorts, just sayin.’
Further criticism included: ‘I’m sorry but this is damn near blasphemous. I really feel sorry for the Guthrie family,’ and ‘Is it just me that thinks this is extremely disrespectful to be doing a full on photo shoot with your ass cheeks hanging out in front of Nancy’s house.’ Many described the scene as a ‘freak show’ upsetting to neighbors.
Kiki Responds to Criticism
Kiki fired back on X, thanking Riches for the attention: ‘I have to say thank you to JLR. You successfully turned all the attention from Nancy Guthrie and diverted it to me. I think the FBI would applaud you for your job well done! While you were focusing all your attention [on] me, I was reporting the facts and raising awareness in my own video.’
Addressing claims of a photoshoot, she clarified it was video content for her channel. When Riches noted she declined an interview, Kiki replied: ‘That’s correct I declined to speak to you, because as a professional I’m busy working & can’t take meaningless interviews. There is a woman missing, possibly dead. Get your priorities straight & stop making a mockery of case & people attempting to film just like YOU.’
Feud Escalates with Other Creators
The Criminal Network channel also called out Kiki, questioning her motives: ‘Raising awareness? You cussed me out and said I called you names which was not true. But now I will, you came off like a bitch Kiki. Neo or whatever his name is was actually respectful and shook my hand, you, not as much.’
Kiki admitted to swearing, stating they ‘deserved every word’ and shared a video flipping them off. Criminal Network retorted: ‘Adults talking pay attention. Kiki, once this becomes about me or you, it’s no longer about Nancy, so unless you are helping to find her, respectfully STFU. I will no longer entertain you or your hidden motives. NANCY. Notice your name is not Nancy.’
Nancy Guthrie’s Disappearance
The disturbances occur as the search for Nancy Guthrie exceeds one month. She vanished from her $1 million home in Catalina Foothills on February 1, last seen there on January 31 after dinner with daughter Annie and son-in-law Tommaso Cioni.
Authorities suspect kidnapping, citing blood drops on the front porch and doorbell footage from Nancy’s Nest camera showing a masked individual at the door early on February 1. Newer analysis reveals the suspect visited earlier without a backpack or gun holster.
A makeshift memorial now stands outside the home.
Family Increases Reward, Pleads for Help
Savannah Guthrie has boosted the reward to $1 million for information leading to her mother’s recovery. In a tearful Instagram video, she said: ‘We need to know where she is, we need her to come home.’
Annie described the search as ‘blowing on the embers of hope,’ while Savannah added: ‘We also know that she may be lost, she may already be gone. She may have already gone home to the Lord that she loves.’ The family vows to accept her possible death but seeks closure.
‘But we need to know where she is. We need her to come home. For that reason, we are offering a family reward of up to $1 million for any information that leads us to her recovery,’ Savannah stated. She urged the kidnapper or witnesses: ‘If you’ve been waiting and you haven’t been sure, let this be your sign to please come forward. Tell what you know and help us bring our beloved mom home so that we can either celebrate a glorious, miraculous homecoming or celebrate the beautiful, brave, noble and courageous life that she has lived. Please be the light in the dark.’
The FBI fielded 750 tips within 12 hours of the video’s posting.
