Iconic Duo Singer Passes After Six-Decade Career
Tony Jones, the beloved Welsh vocalist from famed musical duo Tony and Aloma, has died at age 86 following a career spanning over sixty years. The entertainer performed extensively across Wales and internationally in cabaret shows, television appearances, and concert venues.
Musical Legacy and Career Highlights
Rising to prominence during the 1960s and 1970s, Jones and musical partner Aloma sold more than 100,000 albums featuring hits including ‘Mae Gen i Cariad’ and ‘Dim Ond Ti a Fi’. After an eight-year separation during which both pursued solo projects, the pair reunited in the mid-1980s to continue performing together.
Heartfelt Tributes from Music Community
Aloma shared an emotional message through a family member: “Thank you all for your sympathy and kind words. Without you all, there would be no Tony and Aloma.”
Fellow performers Iona and Andrew Boggie added: “We have today lost someone who is dear – a great songwriter, a wonderful voice, and a very lovely person. Without him we wouldn’t be playing guitar and singing. He will be greatly missed.”
Record Company Honors Musical Pioneer
Sain Records, which released much of Jones’ catalog, described him as “a friend for decades” and praised his “bright and innovative contribution to Welsh music.” Company representatives extended condolences to family and friends, acknowledging the duo’s status as “one of the most popular musical pairs of their era.”
