Far-Flung Postcards is a weekly collection by which NPR’s worldwide staff shares moments from their lives and work world wide.
I used to be taking my 12-year-old daughter on her first-ever journey abroad, to Antigua, Guatemala. Worldwide journey at all times brings a brand new perspective, and that was very true as I used to be seeing a distinct nation by way of her vast, awe-filled eyes.
Whereas visiting a museum of Indigenous textiles in a city a couple of miles outdoors town, I noticed this pretty hanging planter within the form of a chicken. As I bought nearer, I noticed it was made solely out of an outdated tire. It is an ingenious instance of reusing trash to make one thing stunning. And it is a reminder that tradition is all over the place in case you let your eye linger.
