Potential Iranian Terror Plots Target UK

Defence Secretary John Healey warns that Iranian operatives may orchestrate terror attacks in the UK in retaliation for US and Israeli airstrikes. He describes the destabilized Iranian leadership as lashing out indiscriminately, launching rockets and drones at civilian sites in nearby nations.

Security officials actively assess the risk of Iranian-backed terrorism striking British soil. Chaos in Tehran allows Iranian military commanders greater autonomy in selecting targets, heightening regional tensions.

Threat Level Faces Urgent Scrutiny

Sky News host Trevor Phillips questioned Healey on domestic security concerns, including any elevation of the national threat level. Healey replied that the Home Secretary holds authority over announcements, but ed strong trust in intelligence agencies’ proven track record against terror threats.

Phillips pressed further on ongoing reviews. Healey confirmed: “Absolutely. When you get a regime like this, lashing out in the Middle East, indiscriminately and widely, hitting civilian as well as military targets, when you have some of its proxies capable of other actions on their behalf, then of course, our force protection in the region is at its highest. Our alert and our vigilance in the UK is also high.”

Iran’s Regime Branded a Global Menace

Healey labels the Iranian regime “evil,” citing its sponsorship of 20 thwarted terror plots in the UK. He states: “It’s a source of evil, murdering its own citizens and sponsoring and exporting terror, including to countries like Britain.”

Recent escalations include strikes on civilian airports in Kuwait, hotels in Dubai, and sites in Bahrain. Healey notes tens of thousands of protesters killed in Iran, 57,000 Iranian drones deployed by Russia in Ukraine, and proxy activities destabilizing the region.

“Make no mistake. This is a regime that menaces other countries, exports terror, murders its own citizens, and must never be allowed to have a nuclear weapons programme,” Healey asserts.

Recent Close Calls for UK Forces

Healey highlights the gravity: “This is a really serious and deteriorating situation, (with) rising risks of increasing Iranian indiscriminate retaliatory attacks.” Examples include an assault on a Bahrain base housing 300 UK personnel, with missiles landing nearby, and two missiles directed toward Cyprus.

Iranian missile commanders now increasingly select their own targets amid eroding command structures, amplifying the widespread threat across the region. UK defenses in the area stand reinforced in response.
