Recent analysis identifies over 11,000 mobile speed camera zones across the UK, where drivers face heightened scrutiny on the roads. Rural locations lead the way, including extended A-roads, B-roads, and popular tourist paths that authorities monitor closely.

Pop-Up Locations and Driver Risks
Mobile speed camera vans operate from unpredictable spots like lay-bys, bridges, village gateways, and roadside verges. These setups often surprise motorists, leading to fines and penalty points.
Speeding convictions typically result in a minimum £100 fine and three points on the license. Serious violations carry steeper penalties, and drivers with prior points risk disqualification.
Expert View on Camera Placement
Sean Morris, UK Chief Operating Officer at OOONO, explains: “Mobile speed cameras are not placed in random locations; they target accident blackspots and road sections requiring greater driver caution.”
OOONO’s technology alerts drivers to these zones in advance. Morris adds: “With over 11,000 identified locations, vans do not occupy every site daily. Pre-warnings signal entry into high-vigilance areas where a camera might operate, promoting safer driving.”
