United Airlines unveils Relax Row, a new economy class option that converts three seats into a spacious lie-flat bed for enhanced comfort on long-haul flights.
Arrival on Key Aircraft
Relax Row debuts on Boeing 777 and 787 planes starting in 2027. This setup targets solo travelers, couples, and families, featuring images of parents and children resting comfortably mid-flight.
Premium Amenities in Economy
Each Relax Row includes a mattress pad, bedding, two pillows, and stuffed animals for young passengers. Travelers access three 13-inch 4K OLED screens—more than in Polaris Studio pods.
Power options stand out with eight sources total: two AC outlets and two USB-C ports per seat. This exceeds the two USB-C ports, wireless pad, and single AC outlet in Polaris or Premium Plus seats, allowing charges for laptops, tablets, gaming devices, and more.
Affordable Alternative to Premium Cabins
Relax Row offers lie-flat comfort at a lower cost than Polaris, Polaris Studio, or Premium Plus. Passengers book three seats plus an added fee, likely comparable to Economy Plus upgrades and varying by route and aircraft.
United positions this as a game-changer for economy travelers, akin to Air New Zealand’s longstanding Skycouch on similar 777 and 787 jets, which ranges from $499 to $1,000.
As United expands features like free Starlink Wi-Fi across over 340 aircraft, Relax Row promises a significant upgrade to its seating lineup—the first of its kind in the U.S.
