A Winnipeg man faces life in prison after a Court of King’s Bench jury convicted him of five counts of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of five people at a West Broadway rooming house.
Quick Jury Deliberation Seals Verdict
The jury reached its decision just hours after beginning deliberations in the two-week trial of Jamie Felix. He had pleaded not guilty to the 2023 killings at the property, which had become a notorious drug den.
Events Leading to the Shooting
Evidence presented during the trial revealed Felix spent several days at the rooming house consuming crack cocaine and alcohol before the incident. He later confessed to his ex-girlfriend that he fired the shots inside one of the units.
Victims Named
The victims included Crystal Beardy, 34, and her sister Stephanie Beardy, 33, along with Melelek Lesikel, 29; Dylan Lavallee, 41; and Shawn Marko, 56.
Prosecution and Defense Arguments
Prosecutors argued Felix acted out of paranoia during the shootings. The defense countered that he was set up as a patsy by his late father.
