Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas shares a memorable night out with legends Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, highlighting their contrasting personalities after a few drinks.
Tsitsipas’ First Alcohol Experience at Laver Cup
During the Laver Cup, world No. 43 Tsitsipas experienced his first time drinking alcohol alongside Federer, 44, and Nadal, 39. The evening escalated to dancing on tables with former Austrian player Dominic Thiem.
Tsitsipas described the night vividly: “I got drunk for the first time with Rafa and Roger. It was the first time I drank alcohol in my life. Great way to start it. I couldn’t ask for anything better.”
He recalled his uncertainty with orders, noting Federer encouraged him: “Come on, you have to drink something.”
Contrasting Personalities: Sociable Federer vs. Reserved Nadal
Tsitsipas observes Federer as approachable, confident, and spontaneous in a positive way, while Nadal remains more introverted. The Australian and French Open finalist sums up the evening as simply “fun.”
Federer’s History of Celebrations
Federer has openly discussed his partying habits. The eight-time Wimbledon champion once shared how he overindulged after one of his five US Open victories.
“I’ve never had a diet in my life. And I like to celebrate a victory with a good glass of champagne,” Federer stated in 2019. “Once I got drunk too. One happened after winning the US Open. It took me three and a half days to recover completely. The tournament was finished on Sunday evening and I only recovered on Thursday.”
Insights from Fellow Players
Australian player Thanasi Kokkinakis also comments on nights out with the duo. He notes Nadal enjoys occasional outings, recalling a players’ party in Acapulco where he opted for tequila in moderation.
“Fed’s is classy, so a wine or champagne,” Kokkinakis adds about Federer. He suggests Novak Djokovic could bring energy to a night out, based on the Serbian’s celebratory videos after his 2024 Olympic win: “I reckon Novak would be loose. I have seen some videos. I reckon Novak would be a fun night out.”
