Trump takes management of DC police, deploying Nationwide Guard in capital crime crackdown

WASHINGTON — President Trump introduced a historic escalation of legislation enforcement in DC on Monday, deploying each the Nationwide Guard to patrol the streets and inserting town’s police division beneath federal management.

“We’re going to wash it up actual fast,” Trump advised reporters on the White Home, noting the excessive crime fee within the metropolis and the current assault on a former Division of Authorities Effectivity staffer by 10 teenagers Aug. 3.

The president has direct management over DC’s Nationwide Guard, not like each different unit, which is beneath the authority of state governors.

Beneath the District of Columbia House Rule Act of 1973, Trump has the authority to make use of the DC Metropolitan Police Division for federal functions for 30 days.

“It’s turning into a scenario of full and complete lawlessness, and we do away with the slums too,” Trump went on.

“Now we have slums right here. We do away with them. I do know it’s not politically right. You’ll say, ‘Oh, so horrible.’ No. We do away with the slums the place they dwell, caravans of mass youth rampage by metropolis streets always of the day.”
