“For me, hell was not the second Israel attacked; hell was the second they would not open the door [of the cell] for us,” Motahareh Goonei remembers in an unique interview with the BBC.
A political activist, Goonei was in solitary confinement in Iran’s infamous Evin Jail when it was hit in a focused assault by Israel on 23 June.
Satellite tv for pc imagery, witness accounts and verified footage obtained by BBC Information Persian reveal new particulars of the assault within the closing hours of the Israel-Iran warfare and of those that died.

Scale of the assault

Why goal Evin?
Israel alleged the jail was getting used for “intelligence operations [against it], together with counter-espionage”. It has not responded to questions from the BBC concerning the actual targets or weapons used, or whether or not it anticipated civilian deaths.
A month after the assault, Amnesty Worldwide printed a report into the incident.
