A fierce blaze has consumed a three-story nursery in Lewisham, drawing eight fire engines and approximately 60 firefighters to the scene on Saturday evening.
Emergency Response Underway
Firefighters arrived promptly after the London Fire Brigade received the first of 17 emergency calls at 6:37 p.m. Crews from nearby stations, including Bromley, East Greenwich, and Peckham, mobilized to Rushey Green, where the nursery is located. The incident escalated quickly, with part of the roof fully involved in flames, as captured in social media videos showing the building well alight.
The London Fire Brigade confirmed the deployment at around 7:40 p.m., stating that crews are actively working to contain the fire at the three-story structure.
Local Alerts and Disruptions
Councillor James Walsh shared footage of the fire and urged residents to adjust their travel plans. “There is an active fire incident on Rushey Green at The Rushey Green Nursery. Please amend your journeys and expect delays,” Walsh posted.
Officials note that the cause of the fire remains under investigation at this stage, with no immediate reports of injuries.
