Highlander Reboot: First Glimpse of Henry Cavill Filming at Tower of London

The Tower of London, known for its turbulent history, now serves as a dramatic backdrop for the rebooted Highlander film. Immortal warriors clash across centuries in a high-stakes duel where only decapitation brings defeat, and production has captured the first exciting images from the set in central London.

Star-Studded Action on Historic Grounds

Henry Cavill takes the lead role as the new Connor MacLeod, following his acclaimed performances in The Witcher and Superman. Recent photos show Cavill in a rugged leather ensemble, echoing the iconic look worn by Christopher Lambert in the 1986 original. He appears deep in conversation with co-star Jeremy Irons, who sports a dark trench coat and a distinctive Van Dyke beard.

Action sequences promise intense thrills, with footage revealing Cavill—or his stunt double—tumbling from a motorbike. Secured by a safety rope hidden under his coat, the performer dives beneath the wheels of an SUV, hinting at the film’s dynamic stunts.

Behind the Scenes: Direction and Production Details

Chad Stahelski directs the reboot, drawing from his expertise as a martial artist and stunt coordinator. He previously doubled for Keanu Reeves in The Matrix and helmed the John Wick series, ensuring acrobatic combat scenes that captivate audiences.

Filming commenced on January 28 in Scotland, after a delay caused by Cavill’s rehearsal injury. The story follows Connor MacLeod, a Scottish Highlander from medieval times who learns of his immortality. Guided by the swordsman Ramirez—portrayed by Russell Crowe—he confronts rival immortals through history. The film’s mantra, “There can be only one,” underscores the ruthless battle where the victor absorbs the essence of the fallen in the “Quickening.”

Cast and Crew Highlights

Joining Cavill and Crowe are a talented ensemble including Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Marisa Abela, Jeremy Irons, Djimon Hounsou, Max Zhang, Drew McIntyre, Siobhán Cullen, Jun Jong-seo, Nassim Lyes, and Kevin McKidd.

Michael Finch penned the screenplay, while Dan Laustsen handles cinematography. Tyler Bates composes the score, incorporating elements from the original Queen’s soundtrack.

Amazon MGM Studios plans a 2027 release, positioning the film as a fresh take on the enduring sci-fi action classic.
