Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s wife, Amy Earnhardt, recently shared that she has harbored a grudge against Jessica Simpson for nearly 20 years. During the February 5 episode of their podcast Bless Your ‘Hardt, Amy described an encounter from 2008 or 2009 that sparked the long-standing resentment.
The Daytona Speedway Incident
Amy, a longtime fan of the 45-year-old singer from Texas, visited Dale Earnhardt Jr., now 51, at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. Simpson was also there at the time, and Amy asked her then-new boyfriend for an introduction.
Dale Jr. advised against it, calling it a bad idea. Shortly after, someone showed Amy a video clip of Simpson claiming in an interview that she dreamed of marrying Dale Jr. in a treehouse.
Amy reacted sharply, saying, “Yeah, don’t bring that b***h over here.” She laughed as she recounted the moment, adding, “I haven’t bought a Jessica Simpson shoe or a bag ever since then.”
Reasons Behind the Grudge
Amy accused Simpson of deliberately trying to pursue her man, stating, “She was f***ing trying to fish my man! She knew exactly what she was doing.” She speculated that Simpson had heard Dale Jr. mention plans to build a treehouse and crafted the dream story accordingly.
Dale Jr. chimed in, noting, “I bet she would dispute this,” regarding the With You hitmaker’s intentions.
Family Backgrounds
The Earnhardts married in 2016 and have two daughters: Isla, 7, and Nicole, 5.
Simpson, meanwhile, was married to Nick Lachey from 2002 to 2006 and dated Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, 45, around the period in question. She later wed NFL tight end Eric Johnson, 46, in 2014. The couple announced their separation in January 2025, with Simpson stating, “Eric and I have been living separately, navigating a painful situation in our marriage.”
Breakup speculation began in November 2024 when Simpson teased new music, posting, “Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearthed my singular magic. This comeback is personal. It’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve.” They share daughters Maxwell, 13, and Birdie, 7 in March, plus son Ace, 12.
