GHD Speed Dryer: Power and Precision with Halo Airflow Tech

After testing numerous hair dryers, the GHD Speed stands out as the most powerful model yet. This latest addition features innovative halo dual-airflow technology, which surrounds the main hot airflow with a perimeter of cool air for enhanced control.

Balancing Speed and Smoothness

Janine Jennings, Head of Education for GHD UK&I, explains the challenge with high-speed dryers: “Super-fast dryers often sacrifice control for power, drying hair quickly but without smoothness.” The GHD Speed overcomes this by combining high-velocity airflow with precision, delivering ultra-fast drying and a super-sleek finish.

During tests, the dryer’s maximum setting among its four wind speeds generated impressive power, confirming its rapid drying capability.

Halo Technology Prevents Heat Damage

The halo feature mixes cool air with hot airflow, reducing the hair exit temperature by up to 20 degrees Celsius. This helps prevent overheating and minimizes heat damage risks.

At GHD’s Cambridge R&D lab, scientists tested heat performance across various hair types. Controlled studies showed no thermal damage after three drying passes using an oval paddle brush and the professional Halo styling concentrator on maximum heat and airflow, compared to naturally dried hair.

Additional Benefits and Real-World Testing

The halo effect keeps the dryer barrel cool to the touch, enabling closer root application for better volume and shine. While the barrel remained comfortable to grip for precise airflow direction, the cool air was not distinctly felt near the scalp, even when positioning the dryer side-on.

Cool Shot and Unique Cold Setting

The halo technology complements but does not replace the cool shot. Jennings notes: “A cool shot is still recommended to lock in your finished style. Halo technology manages heat intelligently throughout drying, but the cool shot delivers that final cuticle sealing step for long-lasting hold.”

The GHD Speed simplifies this with a dedicated cool shot pulse button and a continuous cold air temperature setting—no button-holding required. This continuous cold option sets it apart from other top hair dryers tested.

The GHD Speed is available now from GHD and select retailers for £299.
