Authorities have arrested 20-year-old Abdul Yeberebaba in Calgary and transported him to Toronto, where he now faces a second-degree murder charge linked to the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Jahkai Jack.

The Unprovoked Attack

Investigators classify the incident as unprovoked. It took place last June near Emmett Avenue and Jane Street after a verbal dispute during a gathering in the neighborhood. Toronto police identified Yeberebaba as the prime suspect one week ago during a news conference and issued a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest.

Jahkai Jack had no ties to gangs or criminal elements. “He was simply a young person meeting friends on a Saturday night,” stated Det.-Sgt. Phillip Campbell.

Aftermath and Response

Bystanders rushed the wounded teen to a nearby health-care centre following the shooting. Witnesses report that urgent cries for assistance at the facility’s entrance went unheeded as Jack bled out.

Additional Arrests

Two other Toronto residents, 19-year-old Jayden Samuel-James and 21-year-old Rajveer Gill, face charges of accessory after the fact to murder after their arrests last week.

Upcoming Court Date

Yeberebaba is scheduled to appear in a Toronto court on Friday morning.
