Ernesto Valverde announced on Friday that his third stint at Athletic Bilbao will conclude in May, with Andoni Iraola emerging as a leading candidate to succeed the 62-year-old.

Iraola Addresses Speculation

Iraola, currently managing Bournemouth, dismissed any immediate impact from the news. “No, it doesn’t have anything to do with me,” Iraola stated. “Probably as a supporter because it is my club but no it doesn’t affect the situation.”

He emphasized his satisfaction at Bournemouth. “I’ve said it a lot of times I’m very happy here. I have a great relationship with the club and it’s true that we will have to take a decision according to this but it’s a situation I have had most of my years as manager. It is not new to me.”

Pundits Endorse Iraola for Manchester United

Football pundit Jamie Redknapp hailed Iraola as an elite manager. “I love the way that Bournemouth play and he has been an absolute revelation,” Redknapp said. He previously tipped Iraola for Manchester United’s shortlist, adding, “I think he could definitely do it. Bournemouth play with high energy and tempo that I think Manchester United would want.”

Former player Joe Cole also supported the idea. “Yeah, why not? He’s a good manager,” Cole responded. He highlighted Bournemouth’s achievements: “To get Bournemouth in the positions they find themselves in, playing really good football and bringing in good players, that is a big bonus.”

Cole noted the team’s strong performance this season, predicting another mid-table finish as a testament to Iraola’s leadership for a club of Bournemouth’s size.
