Louis Saha Urges Man Utd to Sign £43m Van de Ven and Rice-Like Midfielder

Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha recommends that the club targets a dominant midfielder similar to Declan Rice, a new forward to complement Benjamin Sesko, and Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven this summer to elevate the squad.

Champions League Push and Transfer Strategy

Manchester United sit third in the Premier League under caretaker manager Michael Carrick, positioning them for Champions League qualification. This achievement strengthens their appeal to top talents at Old Trafford.

Last summer, the club invested nearly £200m in Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko, and Senne Lammens, all delivering promising performances in their debut seasons. Saha emphasizes midfield as the top priority for reinforcements.

Midfield Overhaul Essential

The squad lacks depth in central midfield, particularly with Casemiro set to depart at season’s end after confirming his decision in January. Players like Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, and Carlos Baleba have emerged as strong links.

Saha stated, “Central midfield is a must for Manchester United in the transfer market, especially if we don’t keep Casemiro, but still we need better athleticism in midfield. We need someone that you feel like is going to be dominant, pretty much all through the pitch, we need a similar style to Declan Rice, a profile that can offer so much and also dominate physically.”

Striker and Defensive Targets

Saha also calls for another striker to pair with Sesko, describing him as a top talent with significant potential. He adds, “I’d also like to see a new striker at the club… Those are the two positions I would focus on.”

Additionally, Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven stands out as an exciting defensive option. The Netherlands international joined Spurs for £43m from Wolfsburg in 2023 and has become one of the Premier League’s elite defenders. Despite a three-year contract, links to a potential exit persist amid Tottenham’s struggles.

Spurs languish in 17th place, just one point above the relegation zone with seven matches left. Saha noted, “We have players in attacking areas and on the wings, defensively we have a lot of options, but Micky van de Ven would be an exciting addition if he is available, he is the calibre of player that can help United to the next level.”

Upcoming Fixtures

Manchester United drew 2-2 with Bournemouth before the international break and face Leeds United on April 13 in their next Premier League outing.
