A chaotic brawl at a youth softball game in Georgia has captured widespread attention online after a coach allegedly assaulted her counterpart from the opposing team. Meredith Haskew Grant, who coaches an 8U little league softball squad, faces charges following the incident during post-game high-fives among elementary school players on Saturday.
The Altercation Captured on Video
Footage circulating on social media depicts Grant charging at the rival coach, slamming her to the ground, and engaging in a fierce wrestle. As the women grapple in the dirt, a rock cover of Miley Cyrus’s ‘Wrecking Ball’ blasts from the speakers. Spectators, including other adults, appear shocked while the young players scatter to their dugouts.
The fight escalates as Grant yanks the other coach by her shirt and hair, pulling her down and landing punches from atop her position. Parents shout instructions to the girls, yelling “get in the dugout” amid the screams and disorder. One adult exclaims, “get those jerks out of here,” highlighting the stunned chaos.
Grant’s Account and Police Findings
Grant informed investigators that a rival coach “got in her face” during the lineup for high-fives, prompting her reaction after claiming her daughter faced mockery from opposing players. However, authorities reviewed the video and determined Grant initiated the aggression by shoving the opposing coach.
A third coach attempted to intervene but reported being pushed by Grant. The report details how she grabbed the woman by the hair, dragged her to the ground, and struck her in the face.
Arrest and Coaching Ban
The Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office arrested Grant on the spot, charging her with misdemeanor battery. She has bonded out of jail. United States Fastpitch Association state director Jeff Britt has prohibited her from participating in any future tournaments.
