Russia threatens strikes on UK sites accused of aiding Ukraine’s defense against Moscow amid the ongoing conflict that began in February 2022 with the invasion of its neighbor.
Russian Defense Ministry Targets Production Facilities
Russia’s defense ministry lists locations producing drones and military equipment for Ukraine. Three addresses fall in London, Leicester, and Suffolk.
The ministry declares: “The leadership of several European countries, amid mounting losses and a worsening shortage of manpower in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, decided to increase the production and supply of UAVs to Ukraine for strikes on Russian territory. We regard this decision as a deliberate step leading to a sharp escalation of the military-political situation throughout Europe and the creeping transformation of these countries into Ukraine’s strategic rear area.”
It cautions that “terrorist attacks against Russia” may trigger “unpredictable consequences.”
Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, urges leaders to interpret the warning literally. On social media platform X, he posted: “Russian Defense Ministry’s statement must be taken literally: the list of European facilities which make drones & other equipment is a list of potential targets for the Russian armed forces. When strikes become a reality depends on what comes next. Sleep well, European partners!”
Facilities also appear in Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Spain, Italy, Israel, and Turkey.
