Four adults escaped unharmed after a pleasure boat caught fire and sank off the coast of Dun Laoghaire. The emergency unfolded around 3:45 p.m. on Saturday when the Coast Guard received a distress call about flames aboard an 11-meter vessel located 1.5 miles northeast of the shore.
Swift Rescue Operation
Dun Laoghaire RNLI launched its inshore lifeboat, arriving on scene by 3:56 p.m. Crews evacuated all four people aboard and transported them to the RNLI station for medical checks. Health Service Executive (HSE) personnel and fire service teams met them onshore.
Additional support included the Dun Laoghaire All Weather Lifeboat, a Dublin Port tug, police, and Dublin Fire Brigade. These units monitored the situation as efforts focused on containing the blaze.
Fire Extinguished and Vessel Sinks
The fire was under control by 5:15 p.m., after which the boat sank. A Department of Transport spokesperson confirmed the sequence of events, noting coordination between MRCC Dublin, Dun Laoghaire Coast Guard Unit, RNLI, and Dublin Port throughout the response.
All individuals involved received assessments, and no injuries were reported from the incident.
