Craig Melvin describes a distinct shift in his morning routine on weekends compared to his busy weekdays filming at Studio 1A for the Today Show.
Caffeine Chat on Air
During the April 24 broadcast, hosts explored their daily caffeine intake. An expert correspondent asked Melvin if he considers himself a “coffee guy.” “I am, just one cup in the morning,” Melvin responded.
When pressed on the effects of skipping it, Melvin admitted, “I do get a little, you know.” He noted that missing his morning coffee often leads to a headache almost immediately.
The expert explained that regular caffeine consumers face heightened migraine risks when they skip it. “Caffeine is tricky,” the expert stated. “It can actually treat headaches—many migraine medications contain caffeine. But for people like you and me who have it every morning, skipping one day brings familiar consequences.”
Melvin shared that he avoids coffee on weekends at home with his children. “On weekends, I don’t have as much coffee, especially Sunday mornings when I’m like, ‘What’s that?'” he said, pointing to his head. “So I should keep drinking it throughout the week.”
Co-host Dylan Dreyer added a lighthearted note: “There’s also kids on Sunday mornings.” Melvin agreed, “That’s true.”
Family Background and Home Life
Melvin and his wife, Lindsay Czarniak, connected while working at NBC Washington—him as a news anchor since 2008 and her as a sports anchor. They married in 2011 at the Church of the Holy City in Washington, D.C., where they first met.
The couple welcomed son Delano in 2014 and daughter Sybil in 2016. Their Westport, Connecticut, home features six bedrooms and numerous amenities, with an estimated value of $6.2 million.
Originally from Columbia, South Carolina, Melvin relocated to Connecticut nearly a decade ago upon joining the Today Show.
On the April 23 episode, Melvin brought Delano to the studio for National Bring Your Kids to Work Day. “My son Delano woke up early, very early,” Melvin said.
