Jonah Hill, the 42-year-old filmmaker, shares insights into his decision to relocate from Los Angeles to a quiet small town for family life. During a live recording of the SmartLess podcast on Saturday, he explained raising his two children with wife Olivia Millar away from the Hollywood spotlight.

Seeking Privacy and Community

Hill left his hometown three years ago, drawn to a close-knit community with welcoming neighbors. ‘They never treat me weird or ask me about my job or anything,’ he said. He praised one neighbor, Dr. Sean, as a close friend who respects his privacy.

On stage at Avalon Hollywood, Hill gave a warm shoutout to his wife in the audience: ‘Shout out to my beautiful wife, Liv. Where is she? Oh, what’s up, baby?’ He described her as his best friend.

LA Upbringing and Changing Tides

Reflecting on his Los Angeles roots, Hill recalled the 1990s as an ideal time to grow up there. ‘LA was such a cool place to grow up in the ’90s because you could go skateboard downtown or you could sneak into a movie premiere or you could go sneak into a comedy club and see Chris Rock or something,’ he shared with hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett.

‘You had access to show business stuff, but you had access to punk and skating and graffiti and all the naughty stuff. And there was no internet. It was just so awesome.’

Family Milestones

Hill recently disclosed his marriage and the arrival of his second child. In a conversation with Martin Scorsese, he stated, ‘And I have two kids now. The only thing that could separate me from my family is the editing room.’

He and Millar, daughter of 1980s supermodel Esmé Marshall, were first seen together in Santa Barbara in September 2022. Their first child arrived in June 2023.

Part of a Broader Celebrity Shift

Hill joins other stars seeking laid-back lifestyles. Comedian Nikki Glaser returned to St. Louis, Missouri, after COVID, as featured on her reality series. She confirmed her move on Live With Kelly and Mark.

Yellowstone actor Luke Grimes relocated to Montana with wife Bianca Rodrigues Grimes and son Rigel, discussing it on The Joe Rogan Experience. Josh Duhamel also traded LA for North Dakota’s outdoors with wife Audra Mari and their family.
