Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has dismissed U.S. President Donald Trump’s assertion of victory in the Middle East conflict during a visit to the Kremlin. Addressing Russian media, Araghchi questioned the claim, stating: “So then why did he ask for negotiations? Clearly, Iran is standing up to the largest superpower in the world, and they have not achieved a single one of their objectives. That is why he is asking for negotiations, and we are now considering this option.”

Putin’s Support for Ending the Conflict

Araghchi noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin has pledged Moscow’s assistance in resolving the war. He criticized previous U.S. negotiation tactics, explaining: “The U.S. approaches caused the previous round of negotiations, despite progress, to fail to reach its goals because of the excessive demands.”

White House Responds Positively to Iran’s Proposal

The White House described Iran’s latest ceasefire proposal as better than anticipated, fueling optimism for a potential resolution to the ongoing Middle East war. Two months after the U.S. and Israel launched operations against Iran, discussions continue under a fragile ceasefire aimed at ending hostilities and fully reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

President Trump recently convened with senior officials to review Iran’s outlined red lines, covering nuclear matters and the strategic strait. Secretary of State Marco Rubio commented that the terms were “better than what we thought they were going to submit,” while stressing caution. “We have to ensure that any deal that is made, any agreement that is made, is one that definitively prevents them from sprinting towards a nuclear weapon at any point,” Rubio emphasized.
