Public transit users in Greater Montreal face a modest fare hike starting July 1, affecting most passes except single fares and two-trip tickets.

Details of the Fare Adjustments

The regional transit authority, ARTM, implements an average three percent increase aligned with the fare indexation rate. This adjustment marks the minimum required under an agreement between the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal (CMM) and the provincial government for the fiscal year.

Monthly passes in Zone A on the island of Montreal rise by $5.50 for regular users, reaching $110, while reduced rates increase by $3.25 to $66. All-mode monthly passes adjust to $170 for Zone AB, $206 for Zone ABC, and $281 for all zones.

Bus-only monthly fares see a $4.75 uptick for regular rates and $3 for reduced rates.

ARTM’s Perspective on Cost Pressures

Benoît Gendron, ARTM executive director, acknowledges the timing amid rising living costs. “Our priority remains preserving public transit accessibility that citizens depend on daily, while securing the network’s financial stability and long-term viability,” he stated.

Changes for REM Users

South Shore REM riders lose access to transitional tickets introduced in 2023. Standard all-mode fares now apply for REM and bus travel.
