Selma Blair, 53, expresses hope for a Met Gala comeback one day, after nearly two decades away and achieving remission in her multiple sclerosis battle.

Longing for Fashion’s Biggest Night

Blair shared that she plans to watch this year’s Met Gala on Monday but will skip attending. Speaking at the Calamigos Ranch Resort & Spa’s Leading Hotels of the World accreditation celebration on Friday, she recalled her past experiences. “I used to be a big Met Gala attendee,” she said.

Her last appearance was in 2009. “Though I haven’t gone in many years, I still have wonderful memories of it,” Blair noted. She mentioned her first time with designer Behnaz Sarafpour, followed by appearances with Chanel and Marc Jacobs about 20 years ago.

“One day I will be back at the Met, because I love fashion. I love wardrobes. And it is a passion of mine, so I really appreciate what they do and I think it’s an amazing event,” she added. “I love watching what everyone’s wearing and I will be watching.”

Met Gala Details

The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit, known as the Met Gala, occurs on the first Monday in May. This year’s theme, ‘Costume Art,’ features a ‘Fashion Is Art’ dress code, encouraging attendees to treat the human body as a canvas.

Co-chairs include Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Vogue’s global editorial director Anna Wintour. Williams co-chairs for the first time, while Kidman served in 2003 and 2005, and Beyoncé was an honorary chair in 2013.

The exhibition pairs historical and contemporary garments, categorized by the classical and nude body, aging and pregnant bodies, and the anatomical body.

Recent Red Carpet Appearances

In March, Blair attended the 2026 Vanity Fair Oscar Party elegantly, walking the red carpet with a cane. She brought her service dog Scout to the 2025 event at the Wallis Annenberg Center in Beverly Hills.

MS Remission Update

At The Daily Front Row’s 9th Annual Fashion Los Angeles Awards, Blair revealed she is truly in remission. “I am doing amazingly well. I’ve been feeling great for about a year,” she stated. “But I am finally well enough to really, genuinely… I always try and feel my best, but now that I actually have stamina and energy and getting out and going out isn’t so scary.”

Now healthier, Blair focuses on career goals, including acting. She explained past fatigue since her diagnosis left her without dreams: “You’re just tired all the time. I spent so much of my life so tired from being unwell that I think I just was trying to get through the day.”

She has three upcoming films: the drama Stay Forte about the Israel-Hamas war, supernatural thriller Silent, and twin drama There There. “I started feeling really better this last year and I’m back at work and doing things, so I will have things to announce,” she said in January.

Blair disclosed her MS diagnosis via Instagram in August 2018, noting constant pain. Multiple sclerosis is an incurable condition where the immune system attacks nerves in the brain and spinal cord, causing damage.
