Donna recalls: “He didn’t have kids but he loved spending time with Dan and the boys and he loved us coming here so we used to visit him every summer, we had some good times.”
Billy faced a cancer diagnosis in 2019. In his final months, the family rushed to Florida to care for him. Dan, 52, shares: “He went with dignity, he knew what was happening and we looked after him until the end. We miss him.”
Dan adds: “He’s done so much for us that we need to stay here and keep his house going. Miss him big time.”
New Beginnings Amid Adjustments
Staying in Florida demands financial commitment. Donna works as a beauty journalist, while Dan, unemployed since arriving three-and-a-half years ago, trains for a career in property. He notes: “We’ve been over here for three-and-a-half years now and I’ve not really worked so I just need to realise that I’m not on holiday the whole time.” Passing his exams could transform their future.
