Rory McIlroy, recent back-to-back Masters champion, discloses the unexpected story behind his cameo in The Devil Wears Prada 2, alongside wife Erica Stoll. The pair appears for 10 to 15 seconds in a lavish Met Gala-style party scene, mingling with guests in the star-packed sequel featuring Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci.
Star-Studded Cameos
McIlroy and Stoll join an elite lineup of appearances, including Lady Gaga, Donatella Versace, Heidi Klum, Naomi Campbell, and Karl-Anthony Towns, adding glamour to the fashion-themed film.
McIlroy’s Podcast Revelation
During the latest episode of the New Heights podcast with Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce, McIlroy explains how he manifested the role. After winning The Players Championship last year, he shared that he watched the original Devil Wears Prada the night before.
Director David Frankel, whose son is a promising golfer at Stanford pursuing a pro career, caught wind of the comment through his team. They contacted McIlroy, who consulted Stoll.
I am not a movie star. If you watch me act, you can tell I am not a movie star. The Devil Wears Prada thing was so random… I said to my wife Erica ‘what do you think?’ and she’s like ‘yeah, absolutely’. Then I text back and asked ‘do you think Erica could be in it too?’ and they said ‘sure, bring her along’.
The couple spent a day in New York filming. McIlroy describes the experience as thrilling but grueling, emphasizing his primary focus on golf: “It was an unbelievable experience but yeah, I have a day job. It’s cool to be able to do these things… but I am not cut out for that. It’s long days, it’s a grind.”
Director’s Praise
At the European premiere in London, Frankel highlights McIlroy’s contribution: “The one I was most excited for… isn’t even in the world of fashion. I mean I loved having Rory McIlroy. He was a great sport. A very good actor.”
