A 25-year-old woman faces arrest on suspicion of child neglect following the death of a baby girl who succumbed to injuries in hospital after an incident at a South Manchester home.
Swift Emergency Response
Emergency crews, including an air ambulance, responded to a welfare concern at the property on Thursday morning. Witnesses reported seeing a paramedic rush from the house carrying the infant.
“It was terrifying. Very scary,” one neighbour recounted.
The child received immediate medical attention before transport to hospital, where she passed away despite intensive efforts by medical teams.
Police Investigation Underway
The suspect remains in custody as Greater Manchester Police conduct a thorough probe. Detective Chief Inspector Ian Wrench addressed the tragedy, stating: “This is a devastating incident and news of a police investigation will cause shock in the local community.”
He added: “Please be assured that we are keeping an open mind as we pursue several lines of enquiry, working closely with our partners to understand the full circumstances surrounding how this death occurred. We are doing everything possible to provide answers for this baby and their family.”
Forensic teams and detectives examined the scene yesterday afternoon, with inquiries continuing today. Neighbours described a heavy police presence, including multiple ambulances.
“There was a lot of police and two ambulances. I heard one of them mention a child,” one resident noted.
Another said: “I didn’t see or hear anything until a police officer knocked on my door. There was one in uniform and one in plain clothes. The one in plain clothes just said there had been an incident and asked if I’d heard anything. He didn’t say any more.”
