President Donald Trump lands in Beijing for a key summit with Xi Jinping, accompanied by prominent tech and business leaders such as Elon Musk of Tesla and SpaceX.

Trump highlighted the significance of the meeting, stating to reporters before departing the White House, ‘We’re the two superpowers. We’re the strongest nation on Earth in terms of military. China’s considered second.’

Trade Deals and Strategic Talks

The summit unfolds amid challenges at home, including the ongoing US-Israel conflict with Iran and resulting inflation pressures. Trump aims to secure agreements for China to purchase more American food and aircraft, prioritizing trade discussions with Xi.

Plans include initiating a Board of Trade to resolve bilateral differences between the nations.

High-Profile Business Delegation

Air Force One carries aides, family members, and top executives. Confirmed attendees include Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Apple CEO Tim Cook, BlackRock’s Larry Fink, and representatives from Meta, Visa, JPMorgan, Boeing, and Cargill.

Additional leaders from Goldman Sachs, Citi, and Illumina join the trip. Trump shared on Truth Social: ‘It is an Honor to have Jensen, Elon, Tim Apple, Larry Fink, Stephen Schwarzman, Kelly Ortberg (Boeing), Brian Sikes (Cargill), Jane Fraser (Citi), Larry Culp (GE Aerospace), David Solomon (Goldman Sachs), Sanjay Mehrotra (Micron), Cristiano Amon (Qualcomm), and many others journeying to the Great Country of China where I will be asking President Xi, a Leader of extraordinary distinction, to ‘open up’ China so that these brilliant people can work their magic, and help bring the People’s Republic to an even higher level!’

The group’s combined net worth exceeds $870 billion, according to estimates.

Filmmaker Brett Ratner, known for producing Melania Trump’s documentary and recently mentioned in Epstein-related documents, also travels to China.

Broader Geopolitical Context

The visit coincides with the Iran conflict dominating US policy, which has closed the Strait of Hormuz, halting oil and gas shipments and driving up energy prices that threaten global growth.

Trump dismissed the need for Xi’s involvement, telling reporters, ‘We have a lot of things to discuss. I wouldn’t say Iran is one of them, to be honest with you, because we have Iran very much under control.’

Taiwan remains a focal point, with China opposing a recent $11 billion US weapons package approved in December. Trump confirmed discussions on the matter with Xi.
